This mural represents that community is an essential part of healthcare. Across the globe, the connections we forge with those around us can significantly impact our well-being and even our lifespan. Community means getting help when you can’t help yourself. Community means pooling resources to help another person get through a rough period. Community means extending empathy to others facing a difficult situation you may never encounter yourself.

When thinking about abortion rights, they sought to explore the common thread that ties us together as people, and what we all deserve—autonomy. A simple understanding: the circumstances that influence someone to make a decision for their body are ultimately their own. The pomegranate – an ancient symbol of birth and the womb – held by the figure in the background reinforces the importance of freedom and agency. The diverse landscape depicted serves as a reminder that this mission requires the participation of all individuals, urging everyone to extend empathy and recognize the inherent worth of each person’s autonomy.

In loving memory of Candi Miller and Amber Nicole Thurman, two women and mothers who died after being denied access to abortion due to Georgia’s abortion ban.

The conversation around reproductive rights is applicable to everyone, everywhere, and I think that the diverse landscape of this mural helps for people to understand that this effects everyone, and the main premise of this is just empathy.
