Living WALLS
2023 REPORT

DEAR FRIENDS,

Some of you have been by our side since Living Walls started in 2010. Our work was massive, ambitious, and completely volunteer based. Atlanta was a different place. The public art industry was different. We’d like to say we (our team and anyone who has ever worked alongside us) played a hand in the shaping our public landscape as it is today, and there is so much more work to be done.
We are not perfect and we never will be; we catch our mistakes and take accountability; we challenge ourselves and we change. We do our best to stay true to our values as we grow, as we take our work into new territory, and play a role in changing landscapes outside of Atlanta, where we laid our roots.
These 'changing landscapes' aren’t just walls, but they’re the people who go on the journey with us as we ideate, as we paint, and as our work continues to live in their public spaces after we leave. As we embark on a 14th year, we do not take for granted the power that we give artists to share their voices with anyone who may pass by.
With the same passion that you support us, please continue to question the role of public art, how it affects your daily life, and what it means to you. Where does the work become a reflection of your own experience?

FEBRUARY

We kicked off the year with our the 4th annual mural at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium as part of our partnership with AT&T. The mural by Matthew Evans offers a moment of reflection to the viewer.

MAY

After launching an international call for artists to paint the Dunwoody Marta Station with over 300 applications, the City of Dunwoody saw its largest mural to date. The composition is infused with energy and movement, literally. With an AR component creating an engaging visual experience, the mural transports viewers to a world of vibrant color and natural wonder, reminding us of the beauty that surrounds us.

Congrats to Living Walls' 6th annual Laura Patricia Calle Grant recipient, Chiomma Hall! Chiomma was granted $20K to create a dynamic mural project at Crawford W. Long Middle School, inspired by Faith Ringgold's Tar Beach. Students from each grade created symbols in response to prompts asking them to reflect on happiness, rest, self-expression, and their needs.
