Jessie Unterhalter and Katey Truhn make up the Baltimore-based artist team better known as Jessie and Katey. Their mission is to transform public spaces into vibrant, playful experiences, and use highly geometric, abstract language to engage with the history, architecture, and culture of a place.
Since 2011, they have been consistently creating large-scale, public murals and installations across the country, learning the intricacies of the places they work. They pride themselves on transforming public spaces and engaging the viewer through the use of color, bold geometric designs, and an underlying narrative for those who look for one.
For this project, they used their unique visual language to create energetic, bright, and playful compositions for The Works. The concepts are rooted in design and form. When creating them they thought of abstract landscapes, where several larger forms are interjected with overlapping organic shapes and color gradients. These elements make the pieces feel bold and sturdy, while also giving them a sense of fluidity and intricacy.
