This project has been a long time in the making and is very close to our hearts. Laura Calle, a friend and member of Living Walls, reached out to Boa Mistura in 2013 about bringing them to Atlanta because they shared our mission of using public art as a vehicle for social change. Laura passed away in late 2015 and was never able to bring this collective to Atlanta. 7 years later, Boa Mistura created this piece as an answer to one of the questions that Laura often asked, “What the hell are we doing with these large-scale murals?”
Boa Mistura is a multidisciplinary team with roots in graffiti art. Created in late 2001, Madrid, Spain, they develop their work mainly in the public space carrying out projects in South Africa, USA, UK, Brazil, Mexico, Georgia, Chile, Algeria, Norway, Kenya, China, Serbia or Panamá. At just 15 years old when they first met, they painted the walls of their neighborhood and have remained friends ever since. Boa Mistura understand their work as a tool to transform the street and create bonds between people. They feel a responsibility to the city and the time we are living in.
