Community is Essential is an extension of the Adult Swim Mural Project, an ongoing exhibition that highlights Black artists through the production of murals around their local communities. The artists in this exhibition—Jade Meyers, Morrah Burton-Edwards, and Nik Richard—came together to create a three-part mural design showcasing the strength and resilience of the New Orleans community.
Jade Meyers is a mixed-media visual artist and entrepreneur from the 5th Ward of New Orleans. She is also the founder of J A D E 1 9 9 1, a visual arts-based company from which she produces and sells her art while also taking on creative direction for various projects.
Inspired by its everyday people, Jade created this mural to capture the potential, strength, and hope of her community members with hopes to inspire them in return.
