This mural is the result of a series of community listening sessions, panel discussions, and public events curated by Living Walls, community organizations, HIV-positive activists, and LGBTQIA+ organizations on the topic of HIV/Aids. The mural concept and design were created by five local queer artists of color.

The work is an attempt to break away from the stigma that HIV still holds. Filled with vibrant colors and lots of love, it’s a reminder for everyone that you can still live a life filled with happiness despite your status. This is a celebration of our queer ancestors, HIV pioneers, and the ballroom and KIKI scenes that provide a safe place to build confidence for those who continue to pave the way in our community.

Welcome to the Transformation Tunnel, a safe space where all of HIV’s gloomy past transforms into a beautiful bouquet of love and light transcending fear and darkness. With this space, we vow to congregate in the name of deeper love, to preserve in the name of legacy, and to thrive in the name of leaving our marks on the world!
