An artist born and raised in Atlanta, Matthew Evans constantly seeks new ways to push the boundaries of traditional mediums and techniques. In recent work, he has explored the intersection of art and technology by creating immersive mural installations that invite the viewer to engage in a moment of reflection. By using 360 photographs site-specific to the mural and a 3D model of a chrome object, he is able to capture the unique reflections of that time and place in a way that is not possible through traditional methods.

The resulting mural offers a realistic look at how the reflections of the chrome objects’ environment interact with the subject, offering the viewer a chance to reflect on their own experience, to consider the sights, sounds, and emotions of the moment.

Matthew Evans is an Atlanta-based artist who is known for his chrome smiley paintings. He received a BFA in Drawing and Painting from Georgia State University. His mural work can be found along Atlanta’s Beltline, near Krog Street, at Ponce City Market, and at a variety of other local businesses and institutions throughout the city.
