“Start Talking, Stop HIV”

by Barry Lee
for Start Talking, Stop HIV
📍 Out Front Theatre

Heavily inspired by the activists who fought and continue to fight for Queer rights, this mural is located at Outfront Theatre in Atlanta, GA for Living Walls and CDC’s Start Talking, Stop HIV initiative.

Barry Lee is an illustrator, muralist, and writer based in Atlanta, Georgia. They are a creative problem solver that tells meaningful stories using a cast of colorful characters and always a dash of mindfulness & intention. Growing up with a rare syndrome called Nager's Syndrome, they spent their time drawing constantly to distract their time away from constant doctor's appointments and surgeries. Barry turned that distraction as a child into a career as an adult and learned that “distraction” was a form of healing through creating art.

Art rooted in activism creates a dialogue about worlds others may not generally experience. Murals are a powerful gateway to accessible activism. With activism, we show radical love. Radical love is loud, honest, and thought-provoking. This mural is inspired by Queer History and our expansive present & future.
