“THE RESPLENDENT: Legends of Quetzalcoatl”

by Patricia Hernandez
with The Pillyr Foundation, Welcoming Atlanta
📍 Colony South

Colony South is one of the few remaining mobile home parks in the city limits of Atlanta. Approximately eighty, primarily Latin American families call this community home, most of which have young children. Various challenges from the community negatively impact these families and limit the availability of safe spaces for its youth. To address the needs of this community, we will deliver a range of improvements to the existing playground. The featured enhancements include a custom-designed playscape created by the Pillar team, a mural from Living Walls by artist Patricia Hernandez, and more painted artwork that will extend the cultural narrative of the playscape design to other parts of the playground site.

Patricia Hernandez is a Latinx artist based in Atlanta, GA. Her art portrays her Latin roots, Latin culture, and today’s world. She describes her art as being a way to transmit her love for her Latinx community, the Atlanta community, and awareness as a way to transmit joy to those who need it, and her goal is to help them. She is an advocator for local Atlanta artists and believes that encouraging others to be authentic makes for a better world. She also believes that shining a light on immigrants’ culture and art can help bridge a gap in our society.

Que canten los niños y que alcen la vos...y que hagan al mundo escuchar, que unan sus voces...y que llegue al sol, por que en ellos está la verdad!

May the children sing, may they lift their voices, may they make the world listen, may they unite their voices and reach the sun, for the truth is in them!
