In celebration of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra’s 75th Anniversary, Jurrell Cayetano painted a mural using references from backstage photos of the orchestra, as well as inspiration from the work of Dutch painter, Jan Miense Molenaer’s “Self-Portrait with Family Members.”

Jurell Cayetano (Born 1992 in Brooklyn, NY) is a visual artist currently living and working in Atlanta, GA. He transforms photo references of peers and other people of color into narrative paintings full of expression and realism. His work generally focuses on portraiture and colorful scenes depicting aspects of life that typically go overlooked.

I wanted to create a painting that invokes classical elements but also something modern that grasps the essence of the symphony and what it’s about.
