“Cuatro Elementos”

by Angie Jerez
📍 Patagonia Buckhead

This design is based on the ancient greek theory that every visible thing was made out of a combination of 4 elements: earth, water, air and fire, as well as the temperaments of a person, where they had to be in balance to be well mentally and physically. This balance is lost in the current times, and we need to reconnect with nature in order to preserve our environment. The flora in the design is inspired by North Georgia Candy Roaster squash flowers, first cultivated and bred by the Cherokee Nation (Keetoowah) in the 19th century. Here, the artist addresses the impact of connecting with nature and our roots within.

Angie Jerez is an artist from Colombia who moved to Atlanta in 2012. She grew up in a decayed neighborhood in Bogota, full of cramped spare parts shops with their own aesthetics and organization. This unique neighborhood influenced her concept of beauty, perfection, and authenticity. Using nature as a collage of inspiration, she creates drawings with detailed linework: abstract subjects surrounded by organic shapes.

The balance of the elements is the same balance a person needs for physical and mental well-being, and reminds us that nature is both around and within us.
